Project Coordinator

The ideal candidate is required to have a strong interest in economic justice, at minimum a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, two to three-years experience in an office setting, and experience and comfort with journalism and writing generally.  The ability to take initiative, get up to speed quickly, and follow through in a dynamic, intellectually-stimulating environment is a must. Excellent organizational ability demonstrated in meeting deadlines, setting priorities, maintaining accuracy in details and working in a cooperative but independent manner are also critical. Strong database and communication skills are required. A demonstrated proficiency with MS Office applications and basic website design (Squarespace preferred) is essential. 

For aspiring journalists, the Project Coordinator position offers the opportunity to work with top-notch writers and photographers and interact with many major publications.  Specific duties include:

  • Manage contracts, payments, and expenses
  • Maintain internal budgets 
  • Maintain internal databases 
  • Website management/upkeep 
  • Interface with consultants, contributors and editorial outlets
  • Write up "Story Extra" blog posts
  • Write, edit and/or proofread articles and development materials
  • Manage acquisition/distribution of branded materials (biz cards, letterhead), office supplies, and other physical materials 

The Project Coordinator role is a full-time, 40 hour/week position. Required work will occur during typical weekday business hours in an office in Manhattan. Exact schedule is flexible. Includes paid time off.
