EHRP Wins Big at Regional Journalism Competition

Amal Ahmed’s “Bringing the Dead Home,” a Texas Observer story we supported last year, won a first-place prize at the 2021 Diamond Journalism Awards, a regional competition sponsored by the Arkansas Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Ahmed’s piece won first place in the Explanatory Reporting, Magazines category.

Here’s what a judge said about Ahmed’s piece:

This entry rose to the top of a *very* competitive batch of contenders thanks to the writer’s highly effective approach to explanatory reporting. This story was written with a very compelling narrative approach and covered a neglected topic in a meaningful and impactful manner. I found the story fascinating from the get-go. Great, in-depth reporting and powerful storytelling.

Chris O’Connell and Savannah Maher’s “F is for Fake,” another Texas Observer piece we supported, also won second place in the Features, Magazines category.
