Each week, EHRP’s original reporting appears in major nationwide publications — amplifying the voices of independent and financially struggling journalists.
- For EHRP/New York Times, photojournalist Zaydee Sanchez documents the luchadore rings of Los Angeles, where Mexican wrestlers find economic opportunities.
- For EHRP/The Margin/The Nation, Jess Zhang and Megan Gannon report alongside EHRP photographer Katie Basile on how the climate crisis is driving devastating housing instability in Alaska’s Native villages, beset by erosion and flooding.
- Our Executive Director Alissa Quart and Celina Su’s latest EHRP-supported poems are in Current Affairs. Through a meditation on the Lunar New Year, Su speaks to racist attacks on academia and DEI initiatives, while Quart writes on America’s fascist oligarchy and the Democratic party’s ineptitude.

EHRP PRESS
- Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink, an EHRP-supported documentary from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Rick Goldsmith, continues to make waves in local press and screenings across the country, recently in Pennsylvania and Minnesota. The doc next plays at the Allen Theatre in PA, hosted by local publication LebTown on May 18. Watch the trailer to learn more about the hedge funds destroying local journalism across the U.S.
- Thanks to Rachel Lehmann-Haupt for shouting out “Breaking the Class Ceiling,” our recent fundraiser event at Clio’s Bar and Books (which Lehmann-Haupt co-produced!) in her recent StoryMade newsletter: “The revolution will not be televised…but it will be reported. By the working class, by the underrepresented, by the Economic Hardship Reporting Project.”

EHRP RECOMMENDS
- Read EHRP grantee Brian Goldstone’s deeply reported new book, There Is No Place for Us. The New York Times recently selected Goldstone’s project on poverty and America’s working homeless as one of the best books of 2025 so far, calling There Is No Place for Us an “exceptional feat of reporting.”Goldstone’s early EHRP-supported piece ultimately became this rigorous five-year reporting effort. Goldstone says, “I’m so grateful for EHRP’s early—and vital—support.”
