Katie Prout is a Midwest-based freelance writer and workshop leader who writes at the intersection of addiction, homelessness, race, and class. She received her BA from Kalamazoo College, her MFA in Nonfiction from the University of Iowa, and now lives in Chicago. Her work has been featured in Literary Hub, Chicago Reader, The New Republic, and elsewhere. In 2020, her profile of Chicago blues artist Mary Lane was anthologized in Dispatches from the Rust Belt: Volume III.
